2022: The O.G. Tannenschlag
Tannenschlag was conceived in 2021, but there was no time to pull off a celebration that year, so Tannenschlag holiday cards were sent without any context. People thought I had gone mad, but I knew we would go big on a 2022 celebration.
The inaugural Tannenschlag non-traditional theme was Chinese inspired, complete with a make your own bao bar and late night Panda Express orange chicken. The surprise hit of the night was the first ever Tannenschlag song, and participants took home officially licensed Tannenschlag Koozies.
2023: Tannenschlag is a Thing!
After the first year, guests really sank their teeth into dressing the part and bringing the live performances. The theme was Mexican, complete with a piñata and all-you-can-eat Chipotle. New this year was Kartonspiel game of competitive gift wrapping; 6 teams of 2 people wrapped had to use materials supplied by the host...little did they know they were wrapping the host's actual holiday gifts!
2024: Shiny Disco Balls
The theme harkened retro vibes from Tannenschlag's disco heyday. In addition to a lot of sparkle, there was a Hawaiian luau with Kalua pork, teriyaki chicken, mac and slaw. The theme lent itself to dancing the night away, and we did!
2025: Alpine Après
This year's theme pays tribute to friendship, delivery drivers, and the upside-down tree of life. It is a Nordic fever dream of faux fur, ski styles, and lodgecore lunacy! We also began the tradition of Krappengeben - the ever popular White Elephant Gift exchange, where you give (and get) wrapped gifts that you would never want to receive!
